Established record

Talgareth is spelled Talqareth in some newspaper headlines and Talgareth on the political map; the map form is used for navigation and both spellings are searchable. It attacks Qevira in December 1211, takes the capital in January 1213 and later threatens Avenrath from the occupied southern approaches.

Government & wartime authority

Proposed institutions: several hereditary provincial crowns recognize a High Sovereign selected from their houses for life. A Diet of Estates negotiates military contributions and can depose the High Sovereign for breach of the union compact. Provincial courts survive beneath a union appellate tribunal. Budgets depend on assessed provincial contingents rather than a completely unified tax system. Wartime authority coordinates armies and foreign treaties, while provinces retain control of ordinary policing and land administration. This produces recurring disputes over which province pays to garrison conquered Qevira.

Armed forces & sustainment

Proposed military: provincial regiments form union divisions only on mobilization. A permanent staff, artillery school and engineer service provide common standards. The southern coastal force uses small transports, patrol craft and infantry landing detachments. Medical and replacement systems remain provincial until field hospitals are pooled after severe congestion. Occupation battalions free regular units for Avenrath operations but require interpreters, administrators and a continuing transport allocation.

Campaigns & the later war

Proposed continuation: a failed 1225 effort to sever Avenrath’s southern road network exposes incompatible provincial supply arrangements. Qeviran resistance and Allied counteroffensives make occupation increasingly expensive after 1227. A 1229 Diet refuses additional contingents; a 1230 succession settlement accepts withdrawal and disarmament. Local commanders negotiate evacuation corridors to avoid abandoning their wounded.

The civilian experience

Proposed civilian chapters examine unequal provincial burdens, requisitioned coastal vessels and the return of soldiers whose home governments disagree over responsibility for the war. The union’s political fracture emerges from its own institutions, not a copied Hukular coup.

Proposed institutional history

Several crowns, one offensive

Talgareth’s proposed High Sovereign must obtain military contributions from hereditary provincial crowns whose interests differ. One crown provides the principal assault formations, another the route and depots, and another the revenue supporting occupation. The Diet of Estates becomes the arena in which military success is translated into claims for influence and repayment.

A prolonged Qeviran occupation complicates the original bargain. Provincial rulers seek recognition for their contribution while resisting indefinite new obligations. The sovereign can invoke the union’s war aims, but cannot assume that all crowns will interpret them identically. A detailed account should track how the distribution of occupation duties affects later willingness to support the Avenrath front. The union remains militarily capable, yet its command system must repeatedly renegotiate the political foundation of that capability.
