The medium and heavy sections have complementary roles in the supplied doctrine. Medium tanks clear routes and maneuver; heavy tanks engage threats that could stop the advance. Mechanized infantry, artillery and repair parties remain necessary because an armored formation must secure terrain and recover vehicles as well as deliver direct fire.
